Champion Jose Aldo, ex-champ Rampage Jackson most recent victims of UFC injury bug

After fighters in the main and co-main events were forced Tuesday to withdraw from UFC 153 with injuries, only one thing remained certain: UFC president Dana White will, under no circumstances, postpone the card scheduled for Oct. 13 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Other than that, though, little is known about what will happen to the pay-per-view card after featherweight champion Jose Aldo (ankle) and ex-light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (elbow) were forced to pull out.

Aldo was originally scheduled to headline against Erik Koch at UFC 148 in Calgary on July 21, but had to pull out of that fight with an injury. Then, last week, Koch was injured and had to pull out of UFC 153. The UFC replaced him with former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar.

The Aldo-Edgar fight added a lot of sizzle to the top of the card, which also included a highly anticipated light heavyweight match between Jackson and the highly regarded Glover Teixeira.

First, White tweeted Tuesday that Jackson had to pull out because of an injury, reportedly to an elbow. Then, minutes later, he tweeted the news that injuries Aldo suffered when the motorcycle he was driving was hit by a car would force him to withdraw from the card.

A report surfaced later Tuesday on a Brazilian website quoting Aldo as saying he wasn't injured and would still fight.

I do not know anything about that. I'm fine, I just train. No [the accident didn't hamper my training], I'm training normal. For me there was nothing spoken. Even on one leg I would fight.

A UFC spokeswoman returned a call for White. She said that Aldo had been told to keep quiet about his injury until the UFC could make a determination about what to do and that Aldo was unaware White released the news. She said he was just following orders when he denied being off the card.

[Related: Glover Teixeira without an opponent after 'Rampage' hurts elbow]

After having last month been forced to cancel UFC 151, which was scheduled for Sept. 1 in Las Vegas, because of an injury to Dan Henderson, White was determined to never cancel another show. That was the first cancelation in UFC history. Reports are that the cancelation cost the UFC more than $20 million.

White said Tuesday during a brief stop at the Yahoo! Sports offices in Santa Monica, Calif., that he had just learned of the news and didn't have anything to announce.

The only thing to be sure of is that he will under no circumstances cancel this card.

‘Rampage’ Jackson shows off his Gangnam Style moves

By now, you've likely seen the Korean pop video by Psy, "Oppa Gangnam Style." If you haven't, click here, enjoy, and enjoy having it in your head the rest of the day. The catchy tune caught the ear of injured UFC light heavyweight Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, and he showed the dance to Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour on Monday. Skip to 1:15 to check out Jackson's moves.

Jackson had communicated with Psy via Twitter, telling him he's working on the dance that has become a viral sensation. He also said he was practicing the dance by himself when a teammate walked in. Awkward!

George St-Pierre wants to finish fights, study dinosaurs and eat McDonalds

UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre has recently been given the green light to start training for his Nov. 17 fight with interim champ Carlos Condit. In an interview with the Toronto Sun, GSP said he wants to finish fights because of the criticism he takes for going to decision, as he did in his last four fights.

Saying he wants to be more "opportunistic," GSP said he is fighting the world's best.

"I can make up a bunch of excuses but the truth is I'm fighting the best guys all the time and it's tough competition. You cannot always win by beautiful fashion. The guy that is in front of me is a very good guy. He's the No. 1 contender all the time and now I'm fighting the (interim) world champ in Carlos Condit. I'm working a lot more on being more opportunistic and it's going to pay off I'm sure."

With a record of 22-2 and six title defenses, GSP has proven himself one of the best fighters to ever grace the Octagon, but the lack of recent finishes nags at the idea he is the very best. A finish over Condit could silence those worries.

GSP also talked about a few other, non-fight-related items. He said if he wasn't a fighter, he would be a paleontologist or archaeologist. And his favorite splurge food?

I like McDonald's. Three cheeseburgers, French fries, poutine with chicken McNuggets and a big Coca-Cola.

Whoa. The man with washboard abs loves a meal with enough calories to last him two days.

Quinton Jackson out of UFC 153 bout with Glover Teixeira

UPDATE: Just hours after White shared the news about Jackson, he tweeted that Jose Aldo is also out of his UFC 153 bout.

Here we go again. UFC president Dana White just tweeted the news that Quinton Jackson was injured and is out of his UFC 153 fight with Glover Teixeira.

UFC 153 already has a new main event. Last week, former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar stepped in to fight Jose Aldo when Erik Koch was injured. Now, the co-main event fight is in jeopardy.

This bout was supposed to be the last on Jackson's contract, and his rocky relationship with the UFC indicated he would not be welcomed back with another contract. He is riding a two-fight losing streak and has ripped the UFC's matchmaking publicly.

Hopefully, the UFC will be able to find another opponent who will fight Teixeira in front of his home crowd. He has 16 straight wins, and debuted in the UFC with a destruction of Kyle Kingsbury in under two minutes.

It's the latest in a strong of fights that has had some sort of cancellation or change for the UFC. The main events of UFC 146, 147, 148 and 149 all changed at some point, and UFC 151 was cancelled after Dan Henderson was injured and Jon Jones turned down Chael Sonnen to replace the main event.

Dana White has some choice words about Roy Nelson as TUF premieres on Friday (VIDEO)

Considering there are no major MMA fights this weekend, it's been a full week of news. UFC 153 was completely rearranged, which is overshadowing the start of another season of "The Ultimate Fighter" on Friday nights.

Heavyweights Roy Nelson and Shane Carwin will coach this season, but word is that Nelson and UFC president Dana White battle more than Nelson and Carwin. White sat down with Yahoo! Sports and talked about his thoughts on Nelson.

"Everything that comes out of his mouth is just ... asinine. I'm worried that at the end of the season, people are going to want to see me fight Roy Nelson instead of Shane Carwin."

White also had choice comments on how Nelson's appearance affects his sponsorships. He said he advised Nelson to cut his mullet, shave his beard, and work on the belly Nelson has become known for.

"He focuses on all the wrong things. You know what I consider him? The ultimate underachiever. Come into my office and [expletive]. 'I want more sponsors.' Well, you got a mullet down to the middle of your back. You got a Santa Claus beard, and what pops out from underneath the beard is this huge, massive roll. What company wants to throw their logo on that?"

He wants to see Nelson take his career more seriously.

"Take your career serious. Maybe if you took your career serious, I would. The guy could be really good if he cared."

Do you agree with White on Nelson, or should he just lighten up on the fighter? Speak up in the comments, on Facebook or Twitter.

The Alistair Overeem doll sure has bulked up

Round 5 released its latest round of UFC dolls/action figures/toys meant for kids but likely bought by grown men. It includes a Chael Sonnen, Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, Dominick Cruz, and two different Alistair Overeems that don't remotely resemble each other.

The Overeem on the left in blue gloves is supposed to represent the former Strikeforce heavyweight champion's PRIDE days. The one on the right is supposed to be him in his one fight in the UFC before he was suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission for elevated testosterone.

Overeem fought for PRIDE from 2002-2007, and moved between light heavyweight and middleweight with a few heavyweight bouts sprinkled in. He was leaner then, but also less successful, losing at light heavyweight to Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, Ricardo Arona and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Since moving to heavyweight permanently in 2007, he has one loss and one no contest. Putting on weight has clearly worked for him, but the dolls are one more reminder of how much muscle he has put on since fighting.

The horse meat he credits with his weight gain sure does a (doll) body good.

Five questions that will be answered by UFC 152

Finally, we have a fight week after way too long of a break. Jon Jones is putting his belt on the line against Vitor Belfort, a middleweight. It's not the fight we want, but it's the fight we get. Here are a few questions that will be answered by Saturday night's fights in Toronto.

What does changing an opponent on short(ish) notice do to Jon Jones? If there has been one hallmark of Jon Jones' career, it's been good preparation. In every title defense, he has shown a complete knowledge of his opponents strengths and weakness. He then exploited those weakness for a win. This is why he wouldn't take Chael Sonnen on short notice. With Belfort, he had about a month to study up which is a shorter time than usual. If he's not prepared, the champ could end up beating himself.

Will Michael Bisping or Brian Stann be the (maybe possibly could be) next middleweight contender? UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva's next fight will be against Stephan Bonnar, but beyond UFC 153, he needs a new opponent. This could be decided with the Bisping/Stann match-up ... perhaps. If Silva decides he wants to fight only Georges St-Pierre or light heavyweights with middle names that start with a Q or take six months off, the Stann/Bisping winner could be left in the cold.

Can the flyweights steal the show? Joe Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson's bout to decide the inaugural flyweight champion was the headliner before the cancellation of UFC 151. Though they're not the main event of the night anymore, but that doesn't mean the 125-lbers won't be the stars of the show. The little guys tend to bring exciting fights. That should be no different on Saturday.

Does Matt Hamill still have it? It's been more than a year since Hamill ended his career -- for the first time -- with a loss to Alexander Gustafsson. He's back after a brief retirement, but will he still have the fire to get it done in the Octagon? He'll have a chance to show it against Roger Hollett.

Will fans tune in? UFC 152 was solid before the Jones/Belfort bout was cut together and pasted onto the poster. But people's response to the cancellation of UFC 151 was angry. It's possible the anger will carry over and keep fans from spending $54.95 on Saturday night.

‘The Ultimate Fighter’ pulls lowest ratings ever for premiere

Did you tune in to watch "The Ultimate Fighter" on Friday night? Probably not, according to ratings from cable shows on Friday night. 947,000 people tuned in to the show's two-hour debut that featured preliminary fights.

Those numbers are not good. It's the lowest-rated premiere in TUF history. In the last few seasons, ratings drop after the premiere that draws in viewers because there are so many fights.

[More UFC: Dana White's breakneck lifestyle not going to stop anytime soon, health be damned]

A few caveats to remember with this data:

-- The ratings listed are for 25-54 year-old adults. The UFC aims to bring in viewers who are male and between 18 and 34 years of age. These ratings leave out a major chunk of the UFC's demographic.

-- Nielsen ratings don't take into account time-shifted views, or watching via your DVR. Because of a trip out of town and NFL football, I didn't see the show until Monday morning. I doubt I'm alone in not watching the show live.

-- It also doesn't take into account online views, social media discussion during the show, or any of the other metrics that measure the buzz of a show. Young people don't watch television like their parents did, but Nielsen ratings have not caught up with those changes.

Still, Nielsen numbers are important to television executives, and these numbers won't make the fine people of FX happy.

Judging by coming attractions, this season will be no different than previous seasons. It will be filled with smack talk between coaches Roy Nelson and Shane Carwin, pranks in the house, tension between 16 men forced to live and train together for six weeks, and fights. There were exciting moments in the prelim fights, but it's hard to judge real talent in those fights because we know little about the competition level or preparation of the fighters.

Little was shown in the premiere that made me excited to tune in this week. Did you watch Friday, and do you plan to tune in again? Speak up in the comments, on Facebook or Twitter.

Good news: Dan Miller’s son received a new kidney

UFC fighter Dan Miller has been on a long quest to find health for his son, Danny, who was born with kidney problems that required near constant dialysis. Finally, Danny has kidney function after a kidney transplant on Thursday.

Danny's kidney transplant was made possible in part by support of the MMA community. When insurance wouldn't pay for the transplant, Miller's fight gym held fundraisers. Jim gave the proceeds from his UFC on Fox 3 walkout shirt to his nephew's cause. Cage Potato designed and sold shirts, too.

Bruce Buffer explains ‘It’s fight time’

During recent UFC events, you may have noticed UFC Octagon announcer Bruce Buffer changing up his signature call of, "It's tiiiiiiiiiime" to "It's fight tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime."

I was confused by this. Why would Buffer mess with such announcing perfection? "It's time" is so well known that fans usually yell the phrase along with him. It's become as well known as his brother Michael Buffer's familiar "Let's get ready to rumble," which the other Buff rattles off at boxing events.

So what's the deal, Buff?

"I was trying some new things. I'm going through some marketing aspects, and that's all I can say right now. I wanted to try it for marketing purposes, but it's time is mine. We all know that. That's basically where it's at."

Buff, if you want to cover your fancy suits in logos, go for it. If you want to rename your signature move the Mickey's Malt Liquor 180, do it. Get that paper. But please please please don't change "It's Time."

Dave Kasper on Andik Vermansyah's upcoming training stint

Last month, D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper said he wanted to "turn over more rocks" in reference to finding international talent that might fit the club's needs. The statement was in line with the global brand Erick Thohir spoke of at the introductory press conference as he and Jason Levien joined Will Chang in ownership of the Black-and-Red.

Three weeks later, and the digging is well underway.

Benson Henderson says he’s not too different than Nate Diaz

UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson is defending his title against Nate Diaz in December. Though the two appear to be vastly different, Henderson told Cagewriter that he sees a common ground with his opponent.

"I don't think we're all that different. I think we're pretty similar. He expresses himself in a different way, but we're both fighters. Both pretty emotional, amped-up guys. I really don't think that we're all that different," Henderson said. "I do think that the media and people will try to portray that and play that up, and if it sells tickets, great. If it gets people to tune in, I'm all for it."

Henderson, who grew up near Seattle, where he will fight in December, said he understands where Diaz is coming from.

"He had a hard life growing up. He grew up in a bad neighborhood. Where I grew up wasn't all that great, either. He talks about it a little more and portrays that. You can pick and choose how to portray yourself. We come from the same place, I just choose to portray myself a little differently."

Come back to Cagewriter tomorrow for more from Henderson.
